US Sand Sculpting Challenge and Dimensional Art Exposition
Hundreds of thousands have come each year to see master-class sculptors build beautiful 3-dimensional works of art. Now many of the world's finest artists will come to create the most amazing sculptures ever. And they'll do it on a unique site with our beautiful bay on the West and downtown's sandcastles in the sky on the East. Just 2 blocks North lie the world's tall ships in all their majesty, and out on the bay, the ships sail with full regalia and recreate cannon battles of yore. It's a 4-day extravaganza for the whole family.
Festival of Sail
Festival of Sail is the largest Tall Ship festival on the west coast and is hosted at the Maritime Museum of San Diego, transforming the North Embarcadero into a nautical theme park for 4 adventure filled days. Daily Activities during Festival of Sail include visiting ships and crew, kids petting zoo, kids craft activities, face painting, Tall ship cannon battles, a special 30 minute Festival of Sail bay cruise, beer garden, on stage entertainment, Naval reenactors, photo ops with Captain Sunny and Pirates, and 100's of arts and craft vendors, plus a multitude of food options, and so much more!
Summer Pops - 1812 Tchaikovsky Spectacular
Celebrate your Labor Day Weekend with family, friends and the San Diego Symphony! It's our spectacular, crowd-pleasing finale: Tchaikovsky's thunderous 1812 Overture! The entire Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 (as performed by upcoming young Texan Adam Golka) will be featured on this soaring evening complete with booming cannons and fireworks over San Diego Bay.
Annual Barona Powwow
Join the Barona Band of Mission Indians for a weekend of contest dancing in all categories, camping, drums and cultural immersion. Dancers will be competing for over $60,000 in prize money!
Del Mar Racing Season
San Diego horse racing takes place where the "turf meets the surf" at the Del Mar Racetrack. Fans flock to the track each summer to wager on their favorite horses during the popular, annual Del Mar Thoroughbred Club racing season, mid-July - early-September. Be part of the magic and nostalgia of this long-time horse race tradition dating back to 1937 when Bing Crosby greeted the first guests, and Seabiscuit won by a nose in the infamous race in 1938. This season features the nation's top race horses, trainers and jockeys, and plenty of fun in the sun.
Julian Grape Stomp Fest
Tons of grapes are blessed then poured into the barrels. The atmosphere is created with Italian music by Roman Holiday, dancing, Bocce Ball competitions, stomping, wine tasting, a Jumbo Jump for the kids and a variety of food and crafts for sale will keep you busy. Situated in rolling hills covered with vineyards and apple orchards, the Menghini Winery offers an ideal setting for the Festa.
Centennial International Summer Organ Festival
Carol Williams hosts some of San Diego's most respected rock 'n' rollers as they play original compositions in a special add-on concert co-sponsored by North Park's Bar Pink!
